Instructions

Instructions Prior to and Upon Arrival

There are a few things you will need when your new bird arrives:

  • An electrolyte stimulant, either pedialyte or the like (provided by us).

  • A supply of quality finch seeds (provided by us). See our Breeding Practices Page for nutritional information.

  • A fully equipped cage with a cover or backing on a few of the sides to elevate stress.

Procedure:

Make sure to set up the cage and food prior to your birds arrival (in a quiet, isolated room) as excessive activity can cause them undue stress. As the birds arrive home give them the electrolyte as per instructions ( sent with birds and can be accessed  upon receivership)

Allow them to settle for a few hours, 2-4 is best, before opening their traveling box and then gently coax them into their new environment. Finches need at least a full week to recover from their ordeal and during this period as little disturbance as possible will help them immensely.

The following day, and for 4 days hence please only feed the seeds, and any other items we may provide. If all seems fine on the prescribed date ( in acclimatization instructional manual sent prior to receivership of order) start giving them cooled water that was boiled the night before. If you notice they are still not recovering on the fourth day then please consult an avian veterinarian and
contact us immediately as their health may be in jeopardy.

Health Certificate:

We can provide a health certificate (fee $75.00 American or $85.00 Canadian) so that you, as a purchaser, know the exact health of the birds you are receiving from us. We guarantee the health of our birds and hope that our health certificate gives you the same sense of satisfaction that we feel with each and every one of our birds.

Quarantine:

Quarantining is an important step in insuring any foreign (new) birds do not pass any diseases or parasites on to your other resident bird(s). Allow your new birds to remain in quarantine for no less then 1 and no more then 3 months, as it takes a while for some illnesses to manifest themselves. We like to keep our birds in quarantine for 45-60 days, depending on their over all condition when we receive them, before transferring them to our main flock areas.

A full instructional guide will be sent prior to your order.
